The Lowly Knights

The band formed in 2006 as a one off side-project made up of a number of members from various local bands. The concoction worked so well that they decided to continue as separate band or “orchestra” as they like to be called. Drawing comparisons to Arcade Fire and Polyphonic Spree, The Lowly Knights definitely have their own style and an obvious local influence in their music that sets them apart from their contemporaries.

The recordings of the Knights have beautifully crafted songs & unforgettable moments but it’s really nothing like seeing & listening to the live performance. They are definitely a band best appreciated live and consist of some of the best talent in the country. One of the most interesting performances around – the only problem we’ll have at MONIO Festival on Sunday the 2nd of August is containing the crowd!

“Mixing the kind of literate folk pop that The Decembrists would snap their pencils for, with spacey, wide-screen, vocal backing, The Lowly Knights could rise higher than the dome where they recently played.”

“Elegant, eloquent and soulful, the twelve-piece are as close to a sure bet that Belfast currently contains. They’ll no doubt use their stint at the Odyssey to size the place up in preparation for their own headline show somewhere down the line.”

“The Knights have songs aplenty to back up the hype, and from late summer, their thrilling shift through the low gears has been the big unfolding story round these parts.”

The Lowly Knights are playing MONIO & FRIENDS 2009 on Sunday 2nd August.
